Position : Programme Officer to the Sub-regional Representative of the OIE for Southern Africa, covering the 15 S.A.D.C. Member States : Angola, Botswana, D.R.C., Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Topics :

Advisor to the OIE Sub-Regional Representative and the Deputy-Representative.
Implementation of the regional training programmes of the OIE Sub-regional Representation for the SADC area in cooperation with OIE's Collaborating Training Centers for Veterinary Services.
Support to the laboratory twinning programme and the recognition by OIE of new reference laboratories in Africa.
Support to the adoption of the OIE international notification system WAHIS.
Implementation of the capacity-building programmes for Veterinary Services of the SADC Member States (EDF-funded Grant Contribution Agreement for OIE) 2005 - 2009.
Implementation of the capacity-building programmes for Veterinary Services of the African OIE Member States (DG-SANCO funded Better Training for Safer Food programme) 2009 - 2012.
Support to the OIE/SADC projects for the surveillance and early detection of zoonoses, emerging and re-emerging animal diseases, including support to reference laboratories.
Coordination with other OIE programmes conducted within the SADC area in partnership with other organizations such as FAO and the African Union (ALive, GF-TADs, Regional Animal Health Center), WTO (STDF), WHO, the World Bank and the European Union (the PRINT and S-FMD-programmes).
Establishment of a regional database on African animal health and welfare experts.
